The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, has urged Muslims across the country to shun conflicts and instead focus on hard work to improve household incomes.
The Mufti made the remarks while launching the Halaal Farmers Center in Luweero District, a facility designed to provide farmers with quality agricultural equipment and verified agro-inputs.
“As Muslims, we must stop fighting each other and concentrate on working hard to transform our lives economically,” Mufti Mubaje said.
“Islam teaches us unity, discipline and development. When we focus on production and wealth creation, we uplift our communities.”
He called upon the Government of Uganda, through President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, to collaborate with the Halaal Farmers project to ensure farmers access authentic and high-quality agricultural products.
“However much the President wants the four-acre model to succeed, farmers will continue to register losses as long as counterfeit products remain on the market,” the Mufti noted.
“We must work together to eliminate fake agro-inputs that frustrate farmers’ efforts.”
Mufti Mubaje emphasized that the Halaal Farmers Center will deploy trained veterinary officers to monitor and guide farmers, ensuring improved productivity and profitability.
“This center will not only sell products but will also provide professional guidance. Our veterinary officials will move closely with farmers to ensure every farmer benefits from their yields,” he said.
Fiona Migadde, one of the center’s directors, said the initiative is committed to restoring farmers’ confidence by supplying certified equipment and agro-products.
“We are going to provide quality farm equipment, certified seeds, veterinary drugs, fertilizers, and pesticides,” Migadde explained.
“Our mission is to work closely with farmers and relevant authorities to eliminate counterfeit products that have caused heavy losses.”
She added that the center will also offer advisory services to help farmers adopt modern and productive farming practices.
Local farmers welcomed the initiative, expressing hope that access to genuine inputs and professional support will boost production and improve livelihoods in Luweero District.
